On Wednesday start the half days, and on Friday the girls and I are going to Tijuana Joe's for Secret Santa :) So my plans for the break consist of... Sleeping, napping, going to NYC!!! and seeing N2N!, frequenting Lenox so I can check out UO's new clothing... Buying a Marc Jacobs bag. maybe. haha! I'm so excited for the break!!! Wahoo. Only 7 finals to go.

Yesterday's Nap
yesterday, the funniest and saddest thing happened...
I was napping when my sister came back from the grocery store, say 6:00.
She comes into my room and says "Leighton... do you want me to wake you up in an hour?"
I respond, "Summer, I don't have to go to school early.. I can sleep in. Go away now!"
She said, "Leighton... It's night time..."
haha how crazy is that... I'm so focused on school, even in my sleep

The Light at the End of the Tunnel
I got through today... So tough, but I made it. Now I'm sitting at my dining room table, working on my math homework. I felt okay about the Chem test, but not so sure... Tomorrow I make up the math test, but I might try to postpone to Wednesday. I'm also working the Blood Drive tomorrow, which is a nice break from Oracle! :)
There were a couple weird events today that are kind of just demonstrating how bad I feel:
1. Stumbled up the stairs and bit into my lip, which started bleeding.
2. Although I was sitting down in French class, I could have sworn I was about to faint. We're talking my vision was taken over by little black dots, like last time...
3. While Bschine was talking in class, I found myself holding back tears because I was just thinking about all the work coming on...
So yeah, gotta get back to my math homework, but I'm going to try to vent here every once in a while... Came across a nice, much-need Bible verse a couple of minutes ago:

Should teachers get lives if students cannot?
Sophomore year has so far proved to be the most stressful year of my life. I am not "wowed" by any one of my teachers... Far from it, actually. Although I do like to get along with my history teacher (he's a pretty cool guy), I'm frankly disappointed in this year's events. Yes, I may have friends... But are they friends or just acquaintances that I am sometimes involved with more deeply than others? Basically, I am disappointed in my lack of enjoyment for my classes.
First Period: Chemistry-M-Boring, pointless, wish we took notes
Second Period: Oracle-CQ-What a disappointment, I have no friends in there
Third Period: Orchestra-L-I enjoy Mr. L, but that class is only freshmen
Fourth Period: Literature-A-I'm getting along with her better, it's the class with the most of my friends, but the workload is ridiculous. Lit can't be used in real life, thank you very much.
Fifth Period: Pre-Calc-I-I's a cool/funny/jolly guy, but this class? Just plain no.
Sixth Period: French 3-M- This is my absolute least favorite class. Disrespectful students.
Seventh Period: AP World-B- My favorite class. I'm actually happy. Still...
Back to the point, I'm suffering from nervous breakdowns constantly. If teachers can have social lives, why can't students? Homework doesn't prove anything to teachers... I swear most of them just throw whatever grades they want to on that "crucial" sheet of paper. I have zero social life. My weekends are devoted to school work.
Today my friend S and I were working on a project that is due on November 16th. We worked from 12:30 until 6:00 at night. Constantly we joked about doing drastic things and going insane because school is getting so stressful. Do we have the courage to do these things? No. But if we did, they might have happened a long time ago. I find myself missing things that I never even liked doing, like going to parties and taking vacation trips to my beach house. Tonight, I was at my friend D W's house, and even then I was working on a Guided Reading that's due Monday. Guess what? I'm a winner; Another one is due Friday.
I don't get along with my family anymore... I'm so upset that I take all of my stress out on them. I saw my psychologist last week and she suggests that I see a psychiatrist... Yes, see what stress does to you? I hope that I don't have anything seriously wrong.
My schedule for the next two weeks, you ask?

11/25: Thanksgiving Break... Will I ever see the day?
Tomorrow, S and I resume work on the project. Hopefully we will finish... If we don't, I don't have a clue how we will manage doing it next weekend.
Maybe teachers should read the book: The Homework Myth, by Alfie Kohn. Teacher CQ let me see it on the second day of school, when I was already completely stressed out. In the wise words of Kohn, "Why [do] we assume that there has to be homework, and why there has to be the homework that there currently is?"
I'm sorry, M, CQ, L, A, I, M, and B, but you are seriously getting to me, and I know that all kids would agree with me. Homework does not "reinforce" our learning. We don't need reinforcement! We just need proper education in the classroom. You need to trust kids and believe that we will use our time wisely! If you want us to be responsible adults, trust us. Trust is the key to all relationships, and yes, teachers and students are meant to get along and find common ground. HEY! GUYS! We sit in classes for EIGHT hours, every single day. Did you realize that? And we're also supposed to have extracurriculars (as if that works out). We never get to have fun! We can't lived a balanced life!
A shout-out to Ms. Protos:
You're amazing. You're always there for me, and I can't imagine what school would be like without you brightening my day... Please know that you mean so much to me :)
That's all for now... Back to work tomorrow. Oh, did I say work? Hmmm, guess I did. Oh wait! That is what I meant. Because I'd say that school is even more of a job than a teacher's career. There are more students than teachers, and their unemployment rate is much lower.
